joined the 3,000-Hit Club with a 9th inning single of Oakland ace reliever Dennis Eckersley — part of a thrilling, thirteen-inning Minnesota Twins victory, September 16, 1993. The 1993 season also saw Winfield reach a number of other milestones including his 500th career double (May 17) and his 450th career home run (August 1). Winfield, the second member of the 3,000-Hit Club to have never played a day in the minors (Al Kaline was the first), was the first member of the Club to reach the plateau at an indoor stadium.

The Metrodome was also the site of the next entry into the Club, as Eddie Murray became the 20th big leaguer to collect 3,000 hits.
