joined the 3,000-Hit Club with a fifth-inning double off Mariners pitcher Joel
Piñeiro, making him just the 26th major league player to reach the
celebrated landmark. He also became just the fourth member of the 3,000-Hit Club with over 500 career home runs. The others to have reached these milestone numbers are Hank Aaron, Willie Mays, and Palmeiro's 1996 Orioles teammate, Eddie Murray. Palmeiro also joined Roberto Clemente and Rod Carew as the only foreign-born players to have collected 3,000 big league
hits.
