entered the 3,000-Hit
Club in a season in which he also set all-time records for most career walks
and most career runs. His 3,000th hit, a first-inning double off of
Rockies righthander John Thomson, came in the final game of the 2001
season and etched a 25th name in the roll call of the 3,000-Hit Club. The
contest also marked the career finale of Padres legend Tony Gwynn, a
member of the 3,000-Hit Club since 1999.
