In 1916, the Brooklyn Robins (later known as the Dodgers) adopted blue-checked uniforms, while the New York Giants chose an audacious purple plaid. In 1917, both the Robins and Giants donned pinstripes at home and checked outfits on the road. The various cross-hatched patterns were abandoned the following season and, other than a brief return on Brooklyn’s 1928 road uniform, were never again utilized by a major league club. |
