joined the 3,000-Hit Club with a single off Jim Beattie, September 12,
1979. Appropriately, the landmark hit came against Boston's arch-rivals: the New York
Yankees. The same game also marked the final appearance at Fenway Park for Hall of Fame
pitcher Catfish Hunter. Yaz was the last of seven men to join the 3,000-Hit Club during the 1970s. The 1980s would see but one new member join the Club: Rod Carew.
