reached the 3,000-hit plateau by singling against his former club, the Minnesota Twins, on August 4, 1985. Carew shared headlines that day with White Sox hurler Tom Seaver, who pitched his 300th victory, defeating the Yankees 4-1. Carew was both the first member of the 3,000-Hit Club to join as a member of an expansion team (the California Angels) and the first Panamanian-born player to achieve the feat.

Over seven years would pass before the 3,000-Hit Club would admit another member: Robin Yount.
