Tom Seaver, who pitched his 300th victory, defeating the Yankees 4-1. Carew was both the
first member of the 3,000-Hit Club to join as a member of an expansion team (the
California Angels) and the first Panamanian-born player to achieve the feat.Over
seven years would pass before the 3,000-Hit Club would admit another member: Robin
Yount.
