used his oft-overlooked power to hit a triple off the right-field wall at Colorado’s Coors Field on August 7, 2016, becoming just the 30th player to join the elite 3,000-Hit Club. The first Japanese-born major leaguer to accomplish the feat, Ichiro matched Pete Rose by collecting hit #3,000 in just 16 big league seasons.
“More than the number 3,000 itself,” Ichiro said through a translator, “when I saw the teammates come out and how happy they were and how warm the fans were, it’s not about just the 3,000 and what I did, it’s about my teammates and my fans. That’s powerful today.”
