Pedro Martínez

Pedro Jaime Martínez

Bats: Right, Throws: Right
Born: October 25, 1971 in Manoguayabo, Dominican Republic

Pedro Martínez showed the heart of a champion on the mound, dominating like few others in the game’s long history. Slight of stature but armed with an explosive fastball and pinpoint control, the eight-time All-Star won his first Cy Young Award in 1997 with the Montreal Expos. During seven years with Boston, the Dominican hurler earned two AL Cy Young Awards, won a pitching Triple Crown, and helped the Red Sox capture the 2004 World Championship, their first since 1918. Martínez, who passed the 3,000 strikeout milestone in 2008 with the New York Mets, finished with a career record of 219-100.
