Nicknamed the "Panic Squad" for the fear they instilled in their opponents, the 1954-55 Santurce Cangrejeros (Crabbers) were anchored by outfielders Roberto Clemente and Willie Mays. The club, called the "Perfect Machine" by historian Jorge Colón Delgado, went on to win the Caribbean Series that year.

The San Juan Senadores (Senators) and Santurce Cangrejeros have been arch-rivals throughout the history of Puerto Rican baseball, often sharing the same stadium and frequently fighting for the league title.
