Confronting Barriers - Scouts and Academies

"The academy is where a player goes from zero to almost being a prospect. Most scouts only want to see what they can get today. I'm the opposite. I want to see today what I can get tomorrow." - scout Andrés Reiner

Building on the successful Dominican model, Andrés Reiner developed the Houston Astros academy in Venezuela in 1990. Many teams soon followed suit in creating their own Venezuelan academies.
