wo
years after the Louisville scandal, George
Hall's home run record was eclipsed by Boston's Charley Jones. Nearly doubling Hall's
mark, Jones hit nine home runs in 1879. Charley's final circuit clout came on August 20th,
as Boston pummeled Troy by the score of 15-3. The next year, Jones set yet another home run record when he hit two home runs in a single inning. The feat has since been equaled, but Charley was the first major leaguer to turn the trick. In 1883, Charley blasted 10 home runs, but by that time the single season home run record had been upped to 14. |
