During the war, baseball raised $2.5 million for Army and Navy relief organizations, the Red Cross, and the USO. In 1943, baseball held two special War Relief Days (June 30 and July 28), in which proceeds of nearly $350,000 were donated to the Red Cross and various other war charities. These tickets were for a benefit doubleheader at Yankee Stadium, New York, on July 28, 1943. Following the regularly scheduled Yankees vs. Indians game, the Navy "Cloudbusters" defeated a combined Yankees-Indians squad by the score of 11-5.
